Background
As a youth, I was blessed to grow up off the 4th fairway of the small country club where my family was a member. My summers consisted of teeing up on the 5th tee, playing the remainder of the front 9 to the clubhouse, practicing on the range and putting green for a few hours, eating lunch, taking a quick swim then playing the back 9 and holes 1 thru 4 home. How simple and memorable those days were.
By junior high and high school a new interest began to emerge for me. Evenings at a small golf club in rural Indiana bodes well for a young kid with a mind for adventure. Due to minimal late afternoon play on the course, a few golfing buddies and I were able to derive our own holes in any configuration we so desired without repercussion. This was the inspiration of what eventually lead me into the field of Golf Course Architecture.
While working toward my Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture from Purdue University, I was extremely blessed to have the opportunity to work on the maintenance crew at Crooked Stick Golf Club, assisting in readying the course to host the 1991 PGA Championship. Through that experience, I had the honor of meeting Pete & Alice Dye. With their guidance, I was able to secure a position the following summer on the construction crew during the renovation of Brickyard Crossing.
After college, I began my career working for a national golf course construction firm as an Assistant Project Superintendent. This valuable experience helped me secure an entry level position with golf course architect Keith Foster, which evolved into my current position of sole Design Associate in his firm. Since 1996, I have learned the ins and outs of the trade and developed a keen eye for the necessary attention to detail from one of the top renovation & restoration architects in the business today. To date, I have worked closely with Keith in the design, renovation & restoration of over 45 golf courses designed by some of the great architects of all time such as Donald Ross, A. W. Tillinghast, Harry Colt & Hugh Alison, Perry Maxwell, C. B. MacDonald, Seth Raynor, Dick Wilson, Walter Travis, Herbert Fowler & Willie Dunn, Jr. Some of these classic courses include Baltimore Country Club at Five Farms, The Philadelphia Cricket Club, Eastward Ho!, Southern Hills & Colonial.
I started my own firm in the Spring of 2005. I focus on providing personal, hands-on service with the utmost attention to the details that go into the successful completion of any job. To date, I have a portfolio of over 25 projects.
My goal for every client is to produce exceptional work at a great value no matter how large or small the project.
